Truckee Canal Losses Study
(2023 - Ongoing)
Precision won a competitive bid to be the prime contractor in a three-year study on behalf of the United States Bureau of Reclamation Lahontan Basin Area Office (LBAO) to develop an updated method for calculating the losses that occur through the 31-mile-long Truckee Canal in Western Nevada. The losses through this canal are a significant component to the Operating Criteria and Procedures (OCAP) for limiting diversions through the Truckee Canal to the Newlands Project, and known inaccuracies exist in the current methodology for calculating these losses.
Precision is leading a multi-disciplinary team that includes Barr Engineering and Follum Hydrologic Solutions to develop an updated method for calculating the Truckee Canal Losses that will not only improve upon previous methods, but will also be:
Defensible scientifically
Implementable in ongoing OCAP administration
Flexible with changing conditions in the future
Ultimately, the updated method will be codified into the Truckee River Operating Agreement Operations and Accounting RiverWare© Model and used to facilitate operations planning and management in the Truckee River Basin.
